Whatever you get for foot wear, make sure it's comfortable. There's nothing worse than having sore, wet, uncomfortable feet. At work you're gonna be on your feet a lot. Take care of your feet, and they'll take care of you.

You are absolutely right Mley1. Any recommendations on shoes brands or places where to buy that are polish acceptable?

You are absolutely right Mley1. Any recommendations on shoes brands or places where to buy that are polish acceptable? I have these insoles: Powerstep InsolesAnd, I wear these boots: Danner AcadiaI like these moisture wicking socks: Western Coolmax SocksBefore you buy online try to go to a store to try the boots on, and see which size fits best. I love Amazon. Anything you can buy in a store you can normally get cheaper off of Amazon. The Powerstep Insoles really save my feet. They help to keep your feet from developing Planta Fasciatis, and knee pain. The socks are very nice. They keep my feet from sweating so much. They are tall, to the knee, and will not fall down. I know the tops are white, and we're supposed to wear navy blue or black. However, with boots you're good to go with them. At least no one at our unit will hassle you as long as you are wearing boots. The Danners are pricy, but well worth the coin. They will protect your feet. They ARE waterproof. And, they are comfortable with the insoles. They will last a LONG time. Plus, when you wear out the soles they can be resoled. You can also send them back to the factory in Oregon and have them recrafted, and they'll send them back looking almost new. I love them. I've been wearing the above combination for a long time. It's a good combination. If you ever get into a use of force you'll be glad you have good boots to protect your feet and ankles. It's hell on you if one of your partners, or the inmate, steps on your foot or ankle. When you're fighting you do NOT want to be worried about your feet. And, if you have to shove a size 10 1/2 up somebodies azz you want to have some power behind it. Not to mention if your post is outside, and it's pouring down rain, you want to have dry feet. Also, if you're working seg, or close custody, and some asshole floods the run you do NOT want shit water inside your boots getting onto your tender toes. So, waterproof is a must for me.

Something that is easy to get in and out of...Since you will need to remove them during security searches..A lot of Us wore Side Zippered Boots.. I used to wear side zippered boots from Bates. But, every pair I ever tried developed leaks within a few months. None of them would last me more than a year to year and a half. I hate wet feet. So, I quit buying them. Besides, lacing up a pair of decent boots doesn't take but just a minute. I'm 51yrs old with bad knees and do it every day.

McConnell can be a tough place to work. Max unit. Short on staff, mandatory OT is pretty regular.
Nagle was killed there in 2000.

McConnell can be a tough place to work. Max unit. Short on staff, mandatory OT is pretty regular. Nagle was killed there in 2000. www.odmp.org/officer/15334-corrections-officer-daniel-james-nagleCorrections Officer Daniel Nagle was stabbed to death by an inmate at the McConnell Unit in Beeville, Texas. Officer Nagle's body was found in a hallway between two recreation rooms in a minimum security area. The weapon that was used was a homemade eight-inch sharpened cylinder rod. The inmate murdered Officer Nagle as revenge for not being allowed to carry a sack lunch into a recreation yard. On April 23, 2002, the suspect was found guilty of capital murder and sentenced to death. In January 2012 his appeal of the sentence was denied by the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals. Officer Nagle had served with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice for three years. He was survived by his wife and three young children.
