Nowhere in the article does it say SAFPE units are ran by a Chicago organization. And, nowhere does it say anything about punishment oriented behavior modification techniques. If you are basing your opinion on the article you cited, you are incorrect. I don't know when I started hearing these stories. Maybe 2005 or 2006? gritsforbreakfast.blogsspot.com/2008/12/texas-not-adequately-monitoring-safp.htmlWhat is your personal interest? Is that lieutenant using Marty's user name again? If you are actually interviewing the number of inmates that you should be interviewing, you should have heard these stories too. I can give you the name of an inmate who would be glad to testify.

The link you posted doesn't go to Grits. If you read Grits, you'll know that most of the posters there are liberal, convict loving, and have no clue as to what really goes on in prison. Grits does a good job of reporting criminal justice issues, but he doesn't really know or understand what goes on in prison. I do enjoy his blog though.

.... link you posted doesn't go to Grits. .... most of the posters there are liberal, convict loving, ....he doesn't really know or understand what goes on in prison. I do enjoy his blog though. My primary point was intended to show that being a Warden at this unit is different, because this Chicago Corporation's employees handle the inmates. The comments following this linked article attempt to show that male inmates at SAFP units were handled in a similar manner. www.austinchronicle.com/news/2008-05-23/627435/These articles open a new can of worms regarding TDCJ contracting. Prior to the affiliation with the Chicago Corporation many SAFP units were acheiving a high degree of success. The first SAFP unit trained the officers to run the unit and that Warden came up with some viable theories about how TDCJ-CID units should be operated. That is what justified the expansion SAFP. Like many government programs, once the legislature threw large sums of money at the program, the program turned into a method for lining the pockets of corrupt politicians.
