Welcome to TEXAS!! Where nothing is like anywhere else. There are still people here who don't like unions, those who see no need for one and others who will remain on the up and up just to keep them out.

BOOOYYY Howdy! Those personal attacks want me to sign up for a dozen unions, NOT! I was a union member for 18 or 19 years. Then they got greedy, and when they don't get what they want, they do what your doing right now. Name calling, false accusations, lies, and they tell the membership they deserve the world. None of it based in reality. ALL the time the Union leaders were raking in the money, from the members who can least afford it. If you don't believe that, check it out. See how much they make, from the local organizer to the President of the AFL-COI, or AFCME. All make more than I ever have. When I joined the TSEU in 87 local organizers never made more than a sergeants pay and got two weeks paid vacation and sick days. In '97 AFCME paid the local organizers Captains pay and gives them two weeks paid vacation, in Hawaii. When I found that out I quit.

I guess you don't know enough about TDCJ to realize that correctional officers in Texas aren't law enforcement. Even if they were the FOP and PBA won't organize in TDCJ because they can't.

But, if you read carefully, you'll see that employee's who are members of the union work under a contract negotiated by the union with legislators. And, the contract must be followed, and renegotiated at the end of the term of the contract. Also read closely, and see that unionized workers will have to wait for the proposed pay raise until their contract is renegotiated. They aren't eligible for the voted on pay raise. Sorta shot themselves in the foot so far. We'll have to see how negotiations go. It's an interesting read, and something I enjoy following. I've never heard of a situation in which state legislators negotiate with unions over pay and benefits. In the feds, Oklahoma, Missouri and Kansas the union and agency negotiate over working conditions while pay and benefits are strictly the realm of the legislature & governor. If you read the article, it states that the legislature DOES have to negotiate the contracts with the unions, for the employee's who are members of the union. Where states have laws that allow unions to have collective bargaining there ARE negotiations on the employee's contracts each time a contract renewal is due.

Precisely one of my points. Thanks for the info on the other stuff SRB. I didn't know some of the stuff you talked about.

I like the idea of union membership, but the ass wipes that run things for union members in Texas changed all that.

It's a national problem. Unions all across the country got greedy, with help from polititians, when the going was good. Then when things turned for the worse they remained greedy and refused to give up, until the jobs began to disappear, like the auto industry. That's a part of why Detroit is broken. The auto makers couldn't afford to keep paying the workers benefits, so they moved, south, and farther south. Out of Detroit at the least. I think unions still have a purpose, but that should be to as a voice of the workers needs. Not to demand outrageous and unsustainable benefits.

Where I am from ,they can only do that in State of Emergency, whic comes from the Govenor . Please No disrespect here But I see you guys complain every day, I do feel very bad for your situations. But you guys have to stand up for your selves , Strike if leagal, Sick Out, refuse to take post if safety is a concern.. Call Correction officer from all over the country to ralley for you, on the capital steps.. Shout BE HEARD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You'd get more respect if you could spell and punctuate properly.
