i was thinking more of staff....at the ware unit it was common not to get a break at all during shift...they locked the barber shops and the pickets were off limits, so building co's had no place to sit and do paperwork. they doubled the # of cell searches to be done per shift and expected more cases...with only a concrete floor to use to write the cases on??? no fuckin' way....

Your day rooms didn't have tables? or benches? Strange. And, not a chair ANYWHERE? I know the supervisors had to have a chair somewhere. I'd walk in there like I owned the place and use one of THEIR chairs. ;D

got wrote up once for using a day room table for paperwork...no chair, stool or bench in the D space and, as the only CO in the building we couldn't leave and go to the supervisors office where all the chairs and desks were....it was a suckfest for sure....

Parttimer... Marty is right. Some people don't have a clue how to supervise. May be an isolated case.. hopefully. I personally have heard good things about San Saba. Other then their obvious issues with staffing out there sometimes. You may get you some OT if you go out that way. As far as a unit, and it's staff, there is a good report.

thnks for the info but i'm not looking for O.T........ just the 2-10 hr. days to supplement retirement income...and i just want a unit where you can @ least be broke out for a quick lunch or a smoke...and is it asking too much to have coworkers who got your back when the shit hits the fan?

There aren't many units left like that. Our agency has cut staffing plans to the bone, trying to stay within budget or cut the budget. There is literally no room for approved time off with folks out at inservice or on fmla, especially with call-ins. Very few units are actually fully staffed at 100%. There are some, but not that many. And, even if they are fully staffed on paper they still suffer because the staffing plans are flawed on the low side. There are a few that are ok, and get breaks. But, they are few and far between. Come to work. Bring a lunch in the approved 1 gal bag. Be prepared to stay past your shift. That way you won't be disappointed, if you hit the gate a few minutes late. I feel for you smokers. I used to smoke. I understand. It sucks to be stuck inside, and need a cig. I know. Been there. And, I'm dang glad I quit.

Shoot when I was out there as a Lt, there were game boxes in the D space, and there was no problem in doing paperwork on the tables in the dorm. I sure wouldt write up an officer for some Bull like that! I know that place had gone to pot but didnt realize it was that bad. Sorry for your luck.

i was there for about three years, at first we had a key to the barbershop where we could sit, do our paperwork, etc.. about six molnths after i started they changed the locks because large amounts of trash were being left in them and officers were also getting caught sleeping in the chairs. most of the time you could go into one of these barbershops and find pizza boxes folded up and crammed into drawers and any other place it would fit just so they wouldnt have to carry them out. the admin there only sees what these shitty officers do and punish the ones actually working.

@ sandman and stresscuttin: the ware unit sucked ass in '09 and '10 when i was there. cpt. was a B/F. and she hated IM's AND CO's...the day shift Lt. saw that each building got broke-out but 2nd shift (mine) did not have that luxury....when i got wrote up for doing paperwork in the dorm dayroom i just quit writing cases...i handled it other ways. still undecided about san saba unit...although i love that country out there.
