Warden t. Simpson and b. Smith are the worst wardens in the state. I worked for the state as an officer and various supervisory positions in Huntsville and lychner. Unfortunately i was disciplined for attempting to transfer away from lychner by said wardens and decided to retire. Before that i regarded the state as a decent, but of course flawed organization. I thought i would retire after 30 years of service. But after accumulating 2 years of probation (hard time) at lychner, it opened up my eyes to the realization that i should seek employment elsewhere. At the state i made 2,200 p/m after taxes. Now i am glad to say i make 3,600 p/m after taxes without having to deal with an administration that treats me like dirt, and doesn't appreciate the hard work and dedication i provided. By the way if you didn't know, if you want to be an LT at lychner get ready to work at least 80 hours a week, come in on your days off to work on use of force packets, and work on them when you are at home. That = no personal time or family time. Good luck getting any time off you built up too. Usual work day come in 4 hours early, leave 4 hours late. 16 hour days.

What kinda work do you do now? I'm rolling up close to retirement and have no earthly idea what I'm going to do next. (27 and 1/2 in the system was also a supervisor but gave it all up due to the same things you mentioned.)

(27 and 1/2 in the system was also a supervisor but gave it all up due to the same things you mentioned.) Do like I did, retire and come back to a unit you like. The double dipping money after a 30yr retirement is pretty good. You actually get paid what you should when you double dip. And, you go to work with a whole new outlook on things. I have no idea why anybody would want to be a lieutenant, anywhere. Lieutenants fade all the heat for the whole shift, even if they're not at fault. It was their fault for not training the staff right. It was their fault cause they didn't make sure to have the right officers in place. It was their fault because they let the sergeant handle the situation instead of handling it themselves. It was their fault because they didn't check the paperwork thorough enough and missed something. It was their fault because the damn captain has no nuts and will not accept the responsibility for his screw up. It was their fault because the major got pissed off at them and now hates their guts. It was their fault cause the AW, who never goes beyond the control pickets THINKS it was their fault. It was their fault because the whiny azzed inmates said it was their fault and the 01 believed the bullchit. It was their fault because the snitching assed CO's said it was their fault. ...............................................well, you get the idea. It is ALWAYS their fault. The ONLY reason to EVER be a lieutenant is as a stepping stone to go farther up the ladder. Now, if you want to get you a good job, you should be a sergeant just about anywhere. Sergeants can claim they weren't trained right by their lieutenant. Next best position is Captain. Captains RARELY, if ever, fade any heat. They are the middle men for the admin. And, they can keep a low profile. The BEST captain position is DHO. As a DHO you have POWER over the inmate population, and they know it. You'll have more snitches than you can shake a stick at as a DHO. Next best on the list of most desirable positions is Assistant Warden. The AW's NEVER fade any heat. Plausible deniability. Plain and simple, they aren't the 01 or the Major. They can blame all the bullchit on ANYONE but themselves, and often do. The other MOST DESIRABLE positions in the agency to have would be ANY position in the regional offices. Talk about cush jobs. If you work in the regional office you will NOT fade any heat, and you WILL have your own office. I enjoyed EVERY minute I worked in the regional office. Now, if you have the balls, and you REALLY want to impress your girlfriend, become a Major or a senior warden. Them folks fade a LOT of heat. Not quite as much as a Lieutenant. But, what the LT don't fade I promise, that Major and Senior Warden WILL FADE.

Yes I agree with the first post warden Brian Smith is the worst warden, 2nd worst was Troy Simpson. They both try to scare and threaten subordinates into submission like they own you.

Don't think for a minute that this agency doesn't own you. I'm generally not a union guy, but places like this is why a union is needed. A real union, but this shit that calls themselves a union.

Where are you now, Marty? blomejj, I'm over at Carole Young now, and enjoying life. I've always liked it at that unit. I get along with most everybody there. Hell, I helped open the unit, and I used to supervise a lot of them, and trained a bunch of them. Grew up in TDCJ with several of the supervisors there. And, several of us there are double dippers, and ex supervisors. So, I feel right at home there.

Some have gotten out and come back multiple times. And, some still call me Sarge. One inmate started at our unit as a teenager, and now is in their 30's.
