I wonder if private prisons could ever take over or hold a majority of Texas Inmates. You had better hope not. Pay and benefits suck. I was a Captain in the private industry back in the early 90's Paid not much more than minimum hourly wage, and no workers comp. Yes, I typed that correctly, no workers comp. Upon employment, you signed a wavier. Most fun I ever had in corrections and the least I ever took the job home with me, but just couldn't live on it. Had one hella of a good Warden. How many of you out there can remember retied TDCJ Major George Fry? That man was as smart as anyone I ever met when it came to convicts.

Why would anyone need Workman's Comp when we all have access to Obamacare?

I wonder if private prisons could ever take over or hold a majority of Texas Inmates. Not in our lifetime, but I can see the retirement plan being eliminated and state employees being required to enter into 401k's. That's already being talked about. In fact, we are already REQUIRED to participate in a 401k. Thankfully, the legislature took steps to make are ERS pension fun actuarially sound. So, the 401k is supplemental.
