Waiting on re-hire. Going into week 6 since the interview. Former TDCJ, 10 yrs, then left due to military spouse move. Been 15 yrs, I had 10 yrs then. Just turned 50, so hoping that is not the issue. I have been working for my families business, but want to come back, as a CO 3, so is it possible, or am I chasing rainbows? I call HR once a week, since week 4 to check status of application, hope I am not bothering them to often. I am graduating college (finally) in August, degree in CJ. I had 1 disciplinary, but it was over and finished long before I left. Left on good terms as far as I know. Thanks, any advice would be appreciated.

A lot may depend on what you put down for your availability unit wise. Some units are tough to get assigned to right away. Not to mention one of our academies is currently out of service, and not doing any training, the Ramsey academy. They were under water a day or so ago. And, it may be a while before they can reopen. Keep calling HV HR. The squeaky wheel gets the grease. Just understand there are things going on that may delay your rehire. Three units were evacuated as well. So, Most of the command staff have a lot going on right now.

Wow, sorry to hear about Ramsey underwater, that's loads of extra work aND worry for Officers and Rank. Keeping them in good thoughts. Thank you for answer, mostly, thinking I need to sit tight and be a bit more patient. I will keep the once a week HR phone call though, good idea.

Plenty of need for officers in marlin. Retires get the call pretty quick there. Got a letter today. Says to the effect: Application approved and we are prepared to offer you employment. HOWEVER>>> the area I requested, Region 6, has a large pool of applicants and they are unable to offer employment at this time. HOWEVER>>> Would I lIke to accept an offer with bonus at an understaffed unit? Hmmm >> NO. Question: If I send back letter and check box x > Please hold my application for my units of preference ( Gatesville, Marlin, San Saba), will that send me and my application to the round file (in other words make me less likely to get the next Academy in Gatesville?). Perhaps I am just stressing to much. Patience is not my greatest virtue. Thank for any feedback. Appreciated. I am just eager to return to work at TDCJ-ID.

They've been trying to staff the less desirable units lately. And, they will try to get you to go there first. If you turn them down it will likely take quite a while before you get hired back on. It's up to you. If you go to a bonus unit you'll be obligated to stay at that unit the allotted time to keep the bonus, or be forced to give it back, as I understand it. If it were me, and I wasn't in a rush, I'd be waiting for the area I wanted. I would also follow up the letter with a phone call to HR, and explain that I have a home in that area and can't afford to work in another area. Perhaps they'll understand that and not sit on your application as long.
