I'd like to suggest a perminent section for upates to policy.
The administration didn't think it important to tell line staff that updates had been made. I discovered that the Use of Force Plan had been updated several months after, while at inservice. The instructor told us it wasn't in writing yet, and they couldn't teach it. I went to the unit and found that it was. The first 2 or 3 page swere there listing just the changes. I was able to obtain a copy.
Found out everyone Sgt. and up get emails telling them of policy changes. Amazingly(or not) they didn't think it important to tell the officers. I guess officers are expected to read through the volumes of policies daily in order to stay informed. And, this is why the officers who care believe the administration wants then to be uninformed.

Would having a spot on the TDCJ Intranet be helpful? (One page that would show the most recent updates.) I know not everyone has access to the TDCJ Intranet, but it would be a start...

I was thinking someone with access could simply could post when something has changed. Then we could go to the unit and read the new version.

There have been several policy changes. I suggest reading the new Safe Prisons Operations Manual, and Safe Prison Plan. It's been spelled out what our responsibilities are in the manual and plan. The UOF plan has changed. There is now an STG operations manual. The classification plan has been updated, and changed considerably. Check out the majors new post orders, as they have additional responsibilities. I suggest that ya'll get to know your Operational Review sergeants. Those sergeants are responsible for updating all of your policy manuals, and they should know about all the new policy changes. They are the ones who do all the OR audits on your units. Get with them, and learn.
I will make this thread a sticky. And, anytime anyone becomes aware of a policy change or update they can post here to let ya'll know to check out the new changes. I would prefer that ya'll read the actual policy changes at your units. I don't want to post our actual written policy's here for the public to scrutinize and critique.

Oh, and btw, just for shits and giggles. Ya'll go ask about the new OTS policy on registering cell phones of offenders family and friends. It was only a matter of time. But, it's happened. Inmate friends and family may now register post paid cell phones for them to call on the ITS system. Not only that, but now they can have up to 20 people on their approved calling list. All a friend or family member has to do is call a certain number. It's supposed to be put out to the convicts and families soon. Figured ya'll may wanna know. Just came out today.

...I don't want to post our actual written policy's here for the public to scrutinize and critique. I think just the policy/directive number and/or title would suffice. Definitely no content. That information is not for public consumption.

The guy that does the voice imprint deal was at the Trusty camp the other day and he said that the cell phone thing only has to be on the inmates phone list, not his visitation list. The phone can't be a prepayed phone. It has to be a cell phone under contract. I have heard, that in the past, the folks on his visitation list were the only ones on his phone list, so it seems to have changed a little bit.
