Well Hopefully they won't ;D in my Face but wait till I leave to do it...Yea or Nay Figure if I am gonna be Stuck on Shift might as well get a Little more Money because it don't look to good in Austin for a Pay raise anytime before 2016..Yea a request for a 14% pay raise is on the Books but Perry has demanded another 10% across the Board Budget cut for 14-15.
Hope they don't hold it against me that I have never worked a Desk or a Turn out or Been on Transports or not on PST Rotation anymore...I am just a Hard Working Pod Boss not given the Opportunity others have been given
Hoping Either I get Promoted or Get a Field Job..Gonna Talk to Lt H

Snitch, while it's good to communicate with a LT. The LT probably ain't gonna be the one doing the promoting on the sergeants board. I'd be talking with whoever is gonna be the one holding the board. Talk to him. Let him know your intentions and goals. Ask him what the hot issues on the unit and in the agency are right now. I can almost guarantee there will be questions on the hot topics. Also, each warden tends to have specific questions that they ask on each board. So, sometimes it's helpful to ask the major, or asst warden, what kind of questions the big boss has asked in the past.
Make yourself visible on the unit, in a good way. Take some time before or after shift and make it a point to be seen with your head in the policy manuals. Trust me, they notice.

Know how you feel and I hope you get it. We need more officers promoted that have actually worked the pods instead of these younger ones who just walk in and join the "good ole boys" club. Damn shame when CO IIIs with hardly a year in are given permanent (?) PST/desk/transport, etc. positions over officers who have the time and experience invested twofold simply cause they're not a member of the club.
While we are obviously not holding our breath for raises, it's no wonder we can't keep officers and morale doesn't even exist. What ever happened to time/experience requirements?

You know, I hear it all the time. The suckass's always get the promotions. Sure, there are a few that go down like that. But, here's the reality of it. And, think about this. If YOU are the warden who would YOU want to promote? Someone you know, have confidence in, and can trust. Or, someone you don't know, haven't seen their work, and are not sure of. I'd be willing to bet that in the board if the person you know , and have confidence in does reasonably well you're gonna promote the person. The guy you don't know, and don't have any confidence in is gonna get passed by.
It's human nature. And, what you guy's call sucking ass, is sometimes called NETWORKING in the freeworld. To get a promotion in the freeworld you NETWORK. You make sure that the people who do the promoting know who you are, and what you can do for them. TDCJ is no different. Just because YOU know what YOU can do, the wardens may not. You have to make sure they do. Answering the questions in the board is NOT enough. Most of the time there are many applicants who can answer the question just like anyone else. So, if you are one of the applicants who can and does answer all the questions on the board correctly, what separates YOU from the other smucks who did the exact same thing???
You gotta do something to get them to remember WHO YOU ARE, and what you can do. Keeping a low profile and staying out of the picture is usually NOT the path to promotions. It can be, but if there are very many applicants at all you will get passed by.

Lt H is the immediate Field Supervisor On Allred.. He usually sits in on all Field Selections..We get along. I have been on two field Boards before...Questions No problems. Both Times better Qualified Officers got those slots Last Field Postings..I Nailed the Questions however I withdrew My Application because the Officer who had been doing the job for about 12 months had to wait for the Assigned Person to that Position finally come off the Books and I told them I thought it was only right for the person who had been doing the job should get it. There is possibly 3 Field Officer Slots open.. Why limit my Possibilities by just applying for one position.. I have worked GP, ADSEG, ECB, maybe it is time to get in experience in the Field...Nothing wrong with 4 10 Hour Days..Home Every night before 4 and off every weekend . More time for Scouting that way. I have not put in in a few Years for a SGT Position. Before Warden Williams left he asked me if I was gonna put in for a Board one time. I said "No sir, Because you promised me a Chance to prove myself and You did..You just put me on the Shakedown Crew and I want to prove to you I can do the Job you gave me. I just got on the Shakedown team." and I did.. I liked being on the Shakedown crew so I passed up the last few Boards..I remember people calling me and telling me Congrats because I made SGT..At the end of the Day I just laughed and remarked.."there are gonna be some really pissed off Officers who put in if I made SGT because I never submitted a packet". Everyone assumed I was gonna make it because of Williams. Maybe I should have before Williams left but I hoping I was gonna Stay longer on Shakedown but New Warden came in and Rotated me out.

I understand what you're saying but I don't want to and never have wanted to promote. I'm a worker and where they put me I'll do the best I can but it would be nice to have some variety. When you know that you'll either be a pod or a dorm everyday it gets old. All I meant was that there are a lot of veteran officers that have proven themselves many times over and who worked these very same positions that are now given out to the "club" members. It's not that they're any better at their job or trustworthy, they're just buddies on and off and some of them take advantage of the fact. What a camera pointing at or around the desk would show...

I understand totally. That's something a supervisor has to work hard not to do. When I was a shift supervisor I worked extra hard to make sure I treated each of the officers on the shift the same. And, I had LOTS of buddies on the shift. I went fishing with several, and hunting with a few. But, they all knew, and understood, that at work it was business. I never had any problems after I established that precedent. Right after I made rank I did lose a couple of friends. They expected more than I was willing to give. I expected that before I went up.

I personally would not recommend going up for a field Sgt. if you haven't been a field boss for a few yrs. A field sgt is no where near the same as a bld/seg sgt. Let me re phrase that, they are no where near the same on a large ag based farm. You actually have a little work to do depending on the type of unit your on. In the field, you must lead by example. There are actual tasks and processes that are not in any policy anywhere. It's not just opening doors and feed chow. I always encourage people to promote, but the field is one that you should really spend some time in first. You will really find out what kind of boss you truly are when you have 20-45 CC inmates and your having to make work at your pace doing what you want them to do. It's not the same as in the bldg. You have to find a happy medium in your offender management to be a successful field boss. ANY one can work in the bldg, seg, field, etc....but only a few can be a field boss successfully and proudly.
There is a reason that some field bosses walk around with their head a little higher and a little prouder that everyone else.

Not to worry the Field Position is for Field Boss Not a Field SGT The SGT's App is for a Shift SGT

Could not reach me so I missed the SGT Board and I was brought upon Disciplinary because Phone is considered a Non Working Number
