James Elton Matthew COLORADO CITY, Texas Graveside service with Masonic rites for former Grandfield resident, James Elton Matthew, 63, of Colorado City, Texas, will be at 2 p.m., Friday, Nov. 20, 2015, at Hollister Cemetery with the Rev. Les Banks officiating. Burial will follow under direction of Jackson Funeral Home of Frederick. Mr. Matthew passed away Monday, Nov. 16, 2015, in Mimbres, N.M. James Elton Matthew was born April 19, 1952, in Clinton, to Lee Marvin and Rosie Lee Tassey Matthew. He attended Asher Public School, graduating from Asher High School in 1970. He served from 1971 to 1974 in the United States Army as a Specialist 4. On June 27, 1975, he and Loreta Fay Pearson were united in marriage at Vernon, Texas. He worked as a Lieutenant Correction Officer for the James V. Allred Unit in Wichita Falls, Texas for 25 years, retiring in 2009. He was a member of the Grandfield Masonic Lodge No. 378 and was a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Master Mason. He was an avid outdoorsman, who enjoyed hunting. He is survived by his wife, Loreta Matthew, of the home; one son, David Matthew, of San Angelo, Texas; one daughter and son-in-law, Tonya and Mike Barlow, of Centennial, Colo.; two sisters and brothers-in-law: Shirley and Valton Gambill, of Terral; and Esther and Larry Grimes of Gilmer, Texas; and many nieces, nephews, other family members and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents: Lee and Rosie Matthew; and one sister, Sandra Kay Kelley. The family will receive friends and family from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
