The Larry Gist Unit is currently dealing with pure stupidity from a particular member of the administration. The ASSistant warden is proof positive that currently in TDCJ having certain things will progress you up the ladder. TDCJ really needs to look at whom they decide to promote into leadership positions. Once again if you have a degree then your able to be an ASSistant warden and higher. He is also living proof that some people should know their role and play it well because trying to step out of it can be a pitiful thing to watch. The previous senior warden that retired while he was there suffered from numerous headaches of having stupidity as his ASSistant warden. The fool at first stayed in his lane and tried to get acclimated to the facility. Numerous staff members attempted to help him in his transition to the facility. BUT as soon as the senior retired then the power of running a facility went straight to his head. He runs around the unit 150 mph doing absolutely nothing. Making stupid comments that "a new sheriff is in town" or "the gloves are off". These retarded comments along with the CORNY jokes that you have to listen to where your looking at him wondering what the hell is he talking about and he doesn't seem to realize that he is the only one laughing at them. Oh and not to mention the idiotic pep talks that have you yet again wondering what is he talking about. Some examples of what the gist unit has to deal with.... One day a supervisor initiated ICS stating that an offender was unresponsive. This ASSistant warden runs down to the building to ASSist with the incident. Keep in mind the offender is sitting in his bunk with his eyes open staring at staff. Once the ASSistant warden arrives he pushes the staff out of the way and begins to initiate chest compressions on an offender who is clearly looking at you while licking his lips awaiting on this fool to start mouth to mouth. Another example he apparently decided to grant approval to the food service department to lock staff out of the ice machine located in the ODR. A person with a half a brain would know better than to do some foolishness of this nature. He is quiet as a church mouse when the new senior warden is on the facility but as soon as he is in charge then he wants EVERYONE to know. Constantly screaming on the radio instructing people to do things but then will do them himself. If you were going to do it yourself then why even instruct someone else to handle it? Not to mention he can't seem to be anything but a puppet when it comes to conducting committee. Normally a Senior Warden, Assistant Warden or Major would take the lead in committee. NOT him.... He doesn't make the decisions he just follows the lead of someone else and along with following that same indiidual around like a little puppy. For a few months the gist unit was without a unit major due to fmla issues so it was just the Senior Warden and the ASSistant Warden. So that meant that the duty phone stayed on the body of the ASSistant warden. He loved to walk around taking pictures with it like he was OIG or a reject CSI. I'm still trying to figure out when the unit had a perimeter lighting issue where a certain part of the perimeter went down. It was pitch black and this FOOL was out there with that flip phone taking pictures of the dark because we know that old flip phone doesn't come with a flash. SMH! Also it would be nice on his duty weekends that on a Sunday he would actually be up front as the Family Liaison instead of spending the entire day in the back of the unit hanging out eating breakfast with the unit chaplain. Soooooo many stories can be told but don't feel like typing all of them...... The higher ups really need to look deeper into who is selected as unit leadership instead of promoting FOOLS like this ASSistant Warden who are glorified Brown Nose Specialists..... Get your head out of your power hungry incompetent self. Humble yourself to a certain degree and maybe your staff will be more inclined to follow your lead. Huntsville really needs to do the Larry Gist Unit Senior Warden some help by moving out the FOOL of an ASSistant Warden and give the man something that he can rely on to make sound decisions in his absence. Otherwise the Larry Gist Unit won't see the full potential of improvement that the new Senior Warden is striving for. Great Job with choosing a Senior Warden who can make a change. Now how about an Assistant Warden that we can DEPEND on? ??

In response to the above opinions... this is not factual and is just that an opinion. Let's begain with fact. The above was most likely written by a cell warrior. If your not aware of the definition of a TDCJ cell warrior it is as follows : a cell warrior is an inmate who hides in his closed locked cell and confronts staff members in a belligerent and cowardly manner while locked in his cell. Now for the rest of the story. Short and to the point....let's analyze what the above post states....an ICS occurred and the AW ran to assist, pushed staff out of way and while the inmate was sitting up....SITTING UP began to do chest compressions. BOOM! You can't do chest compression on someone sitting up. END OF STORY... the above is fabricated by someone whom would loose the battle on the game show the weakest link. Your fabricated writing does not even justify being remotely creative or comical. It in my opinion is by someone who has shown substandard duty performance and has been disciplined and wants to retaliate in an unprofessional way by hiding on a website rather than challenging what you think is wrong. This makes you the weakest link. I work for TDCJ and Like any other profession things change and so do staff.

You do realize of course, that you are responding to a post that is 6 months old. You have the terminology of TDC down for the most part, but there is something, vague, but still, I get the hint that you are relatively new to the agency, and that you are not a college graduate. More likely this is your first or maybe, your second job in the "work-a-day" world. Nothing wrong with that, nothing at all. But your efforts might be better put to use to just do your job, watch and learn, and be as supportive as possible to your shift and unit. If 02 screws up enough, he will be moved and be someone's else's problem. You can't change him anyway, so try to "CYB" and do your 8 or 12 and hit the gate. Leave work behind. Get a few more years under your belt, and then you can come back and explain what is wrong at the Gist. *****As a side note, I am still confused as to why you think the post was written by a "cell warrior". Do they have internet access at the unit? That may well be Brad's going away gift to the thieves!

I realize this is a late response to an old post, however, as an ex street medic, I have to point out that doing chest compressions on a concious person with a pulse can be fatal to that person.

I wish to hell some of you would learn to break your posts up into paragraphs so they can be read without holding a ruler to the monitor in order to try and follow all of those lines.

It would definitely make them easier to read. Well, though, now that I think on it, I haven't met any English majors working for TDCJ. Hell, some of the reports I've seen over the years could barely be read. Damn embarrassing if you ask me.
