No mandatory retirement age for TDCJ. Plus, we have many retreads, me included. You know, running an institution is NOT rocket science. Policy is there for a reason. I take advantage of policy, when I can. However, lack of knowledge of the policy will bite you in the ass every time.

I remember hearing about Allred a long time ago. "Allred - the name matches the color of the floor"-or something to that affect. Is Allred a pretty hardcore place? Like McConnell and Connally?

Not like it use to be....But I hear they have been doing a bit of suiting up lately... What happens when Offenders don't get what they are suppose to. REC and they get tired of Johnnies because there ain't enough Staff to feed meals sometime.

Can I add something here real quick? EVERYBODY who comes through the training academy should have to work GP for at least 6 months. These new boots that go straight from the academy to high security or ad seg don't understand how to deal with offenders when they can literally walk up on you. They get used to having an advantage over the offender who spends 23 hrs. at the least behind a cell door so a lot of them will take that advantage to undermine or provoke a reaction from them. All well and good if that's your thing but as we all know there could be payback. Sometimes you can get sent over to GP and that offender who you delighted in tormenting could be out there not caring one way or the other if he can get a hit in. High security and ad seg at the same time need properly trained officers who realize that and that's where that 6 months can make a difference on whether they stay. What I'm boiling this down to is this - allow officers to get their feet wet in GP and then as each class comes in make your moves. Throwing a new boot into a department where ICSs are a regular occurrence is just asking for the officer shortage to continue.

Throwing a new boot into a department where ICSs are a regular occurrence is just asking for the officer shortage to continue. Big trouble in Little China Now Who do you recommend they send to those departments to fill in the Gaps in Those Departments..Old timers who don't want to move into a New Department? Who wants to give up their Status on Shift to be the New Boot in the department? Who teaches these New Boots..the attitude on shift...is it instructors in Pre-service or Experienced Officers on shift? They learn to talk shit to offenders from the Old Timers. There are Old Timers who don't know how to run an AD SEG Pod because they have never worked a single day outside of GP. There are Officers who have Never worked a Level 2, Level 3 or Closed Custody and even some GP Officers who have never had to work a Medium Custody Pod. You will have High Turn Over Until TDCJ Improves safety issues and increases staffing levels....and I don't mean trying to replace those lost I mean bringing staffing levels up to what they should be..Replacing Seconds on Desks..Replacing Gate Bosses...Replacing Utility Bosses...Replacing Control Picket Bosses (ECB), having 1 officer per 48 Offenders as required by Law in Housing Areas, Having Extra Security assigned in the Kitchen (Allred 4) on Each shift. Improved Work Conditions: Mainly Air Conditioning in all work Areas. Cuts down on Favortism
