So, I took my employment test about a 2 weeks ago and I chose the Stiles unit.
First, I was wondering if anybody knows how long until you hear back from TDCJ? I am from CA and took the trip out there just to take the test and passed so I was excited for that. I know it's waiting game but how long?
Second, how is the academy? How long is the academy? What do they want you to bring and what is provided (if anything) for you? The initial physical test looked easy enough so does it get harder than that? How is the in class and physical training? Do you do both everyday? Are there an academy near the Beaumont area? (I would be looking for a place to live while in the academy or a roommate until I find my own spot)
Third, I have read the horror stories and seen the news stories on Stiles but most of the information I can seem to get my hands on is from around 2011-2012 but what is it like to work there now? Is it still a "Gladiator School"? Has it got any better or worse? Is the turn around still high? I understand that it's hard but it is a prison so I'm not expecting it to be anything close to being easy so I don't know what some people were expecting or what they are going through now.
*****Side note yes I know that officers are paid less in Texas as compared to CA but CA sucks right now. It's way to expensive. I come from a family of officers from all over CA and I am the last hold out. Even my little sister did it before me and she hates it. This would be big move for my family and I.
