Good luck ya'll. Stay in touch. Keep us posted on how you're doing. It's good to see some new guys, and gals, interested in becoming corrections officers.

Best of Luck to everyone.. Be Safe Be Careful... please don't be a Statistic...It will either be for you or it Won't....If it ain't don't force it on yourself....Like we have all said...No one person's experience is a Total representation of the Profession...I loved working for TDCJ and am Still proud of my Work. I Did my Job 110% of the time and gave it my all..But I won't sugar Coat it for the Appearance of the public...I still have friends and Family working on the Unit.
Like Colonel Jessup say "You want the truth, You Can't handle the truth." Reality TV shows don't even start to scratch the truth on the proffession.

Question about shoes? I know that we can wear boots or "tennis" shoes that are required to be black. I found some awesome all black tennis" shoes that are extremely comfortable. My question is does all of the shoe have to be "polishable"? And exactly what do they consider polishable?

My question is does all of the shoe have to be "polishable"? And exactly what do they consider polishable? Depends on your Shift Supervisors...rules and interpetation are subjective to interpetation...One Supervisor may another Might not...I have seen one person wear a type of Shoe and another person less liked get chewed out in front of turn out for wearing same shoe a Supervisor was wearing right behind the person doing the lecture on the shoes to be worn. Basically Leather is polishable, cloth Canvas is not Notice is says polishable but no where does it actually say that they have to be even polished let alone spit shined... Interestingly People want to spit shine their boots because it is so Cool looking...Spit shining boots in the Army is actually against Regulations because it seals the pores of the leather causing foot sweat to build up and cause foot rot

I don't know the details of your case. However, Some may depend on which units you may have requested. Some units are more short than others, some academy's running more classes than others. I don't know either way. Another thing that may be affecting your academy date is the economy. Recently there have been large lay offs in the oil industry due to the drop in the price of oil. Many of the officer who left TDCJ to make big money in oil may now be trying to come back. That could slow things down a bit for new boots.

Make sure that the unit you're applying to isn't all filled up. I tried to apply at Clements and they were full of officers so the application period took much longer than otherwise.

I wonder if Senator Twitmire will want to shake his finger at anyone in a public forum? Why It was the Officers' Fault... It could not because of Staffing Issues...Nothing could possible be TDCJ's Fault.... The Unions says we need more Training.....No one was ever taught these rules before or repeatedly in In-service yearly...Obviously More training is needed.
