No disrespect Marty but your sounding like you don't want to step on somebody's foot here (guess i can say i don't blame you in your positions). The job they (STG) do helps both the staff and public. This whole mess is about the STGMO being to afraid to go to bat for his staff. The fusion center is a waste of money. It's like putting the cart before the horse..their gathers are mostly without a leader, how could they be lead without a leader, how can they gather without someone to show them how to. Huntsville needs to really look at this cause their losing staff at a rate they can't afford.

It's like putting the cart before the horse..their gathers are mostly without a leader, how could they be lead without a leader, how can they gather without someone to show them how to. Huntsville needs to really look at this cause their losing staff at a rate they can't afford. None taken. And, to a degree you are right. There are many things I won't write due to my position, and respect for my leadership(especially my bossman in the office). I will say this. I don't know what the ultimate plans are for the STG department. When it first began in the early 80's I became a part of it as a gang officer, and participated in the meetings at Darrington. The STG department was born of a necessity to stop the killing. The gangsters were killing each other at a record pace. The power struggles going on inside were epic. Ask any old timers that started their careers back then. Once the STG department got off the ground, and started gathering intel, the agency started segging the confirmed gangsters and the homicides dropped significantly to almost zero. Now, we have very few homicides a year, and some are not gang related. Keep in mind, back in the early 80's we had a different kind of officer. We had a different way of doing things. It was a more hard core work force working the runs and hallways. What do we have now? What would some of our co's do now if a stabbing went down in front of them? There is talk of releasing these killers from ad seg. They are questioning the reasoning behind locking them in ad seg for so many years, then releasing them to the freeworld on parole. They say without some form or rehabilitation we are putting the public in danger. The agency leadership is serious about it too. Well, I have a warning. If they release these thugs like they intend to, the halls of TDCJ will run red with blood again. Don't do it Huntsville. It won't be pretty. People(preferably inmates) will get killed. What we did in the early 80's and 90's to lock up these killers WORKED! And, it has continued to work for many years. A hard core thug only knows one way of life. And, he WILL live that life, or die. You can't rely on GRAD to save them all. Well, I guess I took this thread way off track didn't I. It will be interesting to see what happens. I hope our leadership makes sound correctional decisions that won't cost lives, ours or the convicts.

The only thing really concerns me is the lack of real leadership the agency has running these units. That's all I'm going to say on that... But your right if they do release those gang members from Ad-Seg there is going to be a whole lot of blood shed in TDCJ. I think their counting on the Safe Prison Program to really work once this happens. But you and i both know that the gang members are not going to announce their intention to harm anyone especially if it's a hit and with ex-gang members walking GP those would be the first. Now with no one in the RSTGC spot, Huntsville will be making a lot of trips out to various units. It's a real shame that we're taking several steps back just for someones political agenda.

The Push to stop segging people is coming from outside of the system.
If legislation passes we won't have no option but to comply with the Laws.
Should all members of Gangs be Segged or Should just leadership?
Does Segging Leadership stop their involvement?
Obviously we all know that leadership can and will still get messages to their people in GP.
Obviously we know that Gangs still control the Drugs and Smokes in GP. We Know Gangs control the Dirtys.
STG Officers need to be out and About more not tied to a desk. Very few Officers have the abilities or even the desire to see what is going on right under their noses. STG keeps it's secrets from the common Officer so they have no idea who to watch more, who to search better. What training we do get is very rudimentary..I learned more from Watching TV than the Mandatory In-Service Class each year.
Why Offenders hate me a lot is because I Watch and Observe what is going on around me, even when I am in the Picket. I see which cells everyone goes to just before anything is moved..I see who gets care packages left under their doors..I see who get feed in the day room. I learned a lot on the Shakedown crew. I watched an Offender collect over 250 in Commissary right under a Boss's Nose all day long and at 1645 tried to go back to the building with it. From the Outside it would appear like a Normal purchase...Except I saw the offender taking stuff from others..I watched them hang out all day long without ever going in the Commissary. They thought they had got away with it..I waited for them to head back to the Building and we went and stopped them at the Bldg. First they flashed a receipt...we checked it...what do you know, another offender's name...then they claimed they were just carrying it back to the Pod and they would go get the Offender to claim his stuff...Nothing on Receipt matched anything in the Bag..So when the Offender and his buddy showed back up..We had then sign their prop 8s..They thought we would not check everything..I even got the Brand new Rhinos off his feet which had another offender's number in them..made him walk back in his socks..
Safe Prisons and STG are already tied to much to a desk in the Office..Combining them will not help. Like everyone else the lack of staffing and More work leads to problems

Now with no one in the RSTGC spot, Huntsville will be making a lot of trips out to various units. It's a real shame that we're taking several steps back just for someones political agenda. Ah yes, the Safe Prisons Program. STG and Safe prisons were born of two vastly different reasons. The Safe Prisons program is supposed to prevent prison RAPE and EXTORTION. STG is supposed to identify and curtail gang activity. There are vast differences in the programs. The link that connects them are the gangs. It is the gangs who are perpetrating the majority of the extortion, and many of the sexual assaults. In the beginning of the Safe Prison program most of the safe prisons investigations were being done by stg. And, by the same token, a lot of safe prison investigations turn up stg information. So, they tend to be related somewhat. Could we combine the regional stg and regional safe prison jobs? In a couple of cases, yes. In others it wouldn't work too well because the safe prisons coordinators have little, if any, stg experience. As far as regional safe prisons coordinators goes I think me and Fred Cervantes are the only ones with any stg experience. The others don't have much that I know of. When Mr Stacks was in Huntsville there was talk of making one of us, either the stg coordinator or the safe prisons coordinator, a lieutenant and the other would be the sergeant in the regional office. This was supposed to give the stg sergeants and safe prisons officers a career ladder position to jump up to. And, the two of us would be supervising both stg and safe prisons. When Stacks left so did the push for that idea, I guess. It is a good idea, and it would work I think. The only position with rank right now is the safe prison coordinators. We are classified as sergeants. At any rate, if they do nothing they will lose the rest of their regional stg staff. And, that will not be helpful at all.

Being tied to a desk is minor compared to being out during mass movement and having Lt. Capt. or Major see you and off they send you to do something their to lazy to go do themselves. I recall standing in the main hall waiting for a contraband package to be picked up and moved (i didn't know who had it, but i knew who was going to move it) the major comes by and asks me what was i doing, I told him and he said ok. I need you to take this IOC out to maintenance right now. I asked him if it could wait he said no. Seemed everytime i was out there i was sent on some mission unrelated to to STG. Most of the STG are being pulled to anything but their job.

Have one of our little gang members contact whitmire and see if someone doesn't get to filling some stg slots in your regions. Look what he did over cellphones.

Well, I found out the pay is lower than I thought for this position. It's an A15 pay grade, at about 2717.00 per month. It's not even co5 pay. Looks like it will remain open for a long time, especially since the qualifications start off requiring a bachelors degree, with years of experience counting towards the college hours. It may be difficult to convince one of you guy's/gals to take over that position. Anybody interested?

btw, forgot to mention, you will NOT be getting the unit differential pay. It makes a big difference too.

-------you will NOT be getting the unit differential pay. ----------- Approximately, how much is unit differential pay? What is unit differential pay? Unit differential pay is pay given to employee's who's work site is inside a correctional facility. Folks working in the regional offices or Huntsville do not get that extra pay. It is over 100 dollars for most people.

Sounds like these jobs offer nothing but a way to get off the unit. I do think someone interested in this field would bennifit greatly because of the contacts one could make. But that is also why TDC will not keep these people, they make contacts and these contacts open doors for better pay and jobs.

And the main reason that STG sgts cannot get work done is that the admins are pulling them for shift sergeant work, to work the chow hall, to give breaks, or to do CO's work. If they were allowed to do their own work that may help out with the STG's running around your unit.
