I quit volunteering for such things when I discovered the administration was no longer interested in having the best person doing the job. It sooo bad, in my opinion, that I put in for retirement three years before I planned to, and have six days left with the system. I feel bad for those who still care about their job, but have to stick with it knowing their supervisors don't.

Snitch why aren't you on your feet? Medical Reasons... Finally got a good Doctor..(Not just stress or Ulcers) I had swelling of the stomach and small intestines. I was throwing up Blood and it was coming out the Other end also. Constantly sick..Had Endoscope and Colonoscopy and they said No Cancer though. New Medicines are controlling the Stomach issues for now and I also have been having trouble with my right hip and back...Started when I was born with a Shorter right leg and it never was addressed growing up..so now I go to water therapy at North Texas Rehab. Which is helping, I go back to the Neurologist the first of August. I was barely able to get around i GP. Going up and Down Stairs was preventing me from getting better. I am on FMLA I did manage to get in My Application for STG Officer today before it closed and I also enrolled in TFlex and Dental while enrollment is still open

Sounds like there is another opening in that office... Yup, the bossman is moving to Huntsville as the training director. Training is getting a good man. We'll miss him in the regional office. I hope we get another one as good as Mr. Morales. Anybody heard any rumors on who our next regional director will be?

The other question I would ask is; which staff do you think has the training and experience to conduct these investigations? Regional STG and Safe Prisons positions should change to one verification officer who oversees both STG and Safe Prisons investigations in each Region. Raise the pay to admin tech 4 and require at least two years outside training or experience. The two years experience could be satisfied with either at least a two year degree that includes technical writing, and criminal or industrial investigation and reporting or the same length of time as military police, police detectives or border patrol. The newly created position should report directly to a Deputy CID Director or one of their hinchmen like Ivey. The newly created Verification Officers would be responsible for monitoring the STG and Safe Prisons people at the units. Any remaining coordinators/verification officers would have to get additional training or continue to work, but as an Admin Tech II. Normal riff procedures would be followed to eliminate excess staff who are not ready, willing, and able to assume the newly created position or transfer to other open positions.

As I understand it, cause I was around back then, the regional stg positions WERE captains slots. They were then classified as Admin Tech 4's way back when due to some misguided soul in Huntsville. Their pay fell behind due to not being classified as security. The requirements are already above what you're suggesting. And, most of the current regionals far surpass the requirements, myself included. It has already been suggested combining the positions. Right now only me, and one other regional safe prisons coordinator has the experience to slide right into a position like that. The others have the education and safe prisons experience down, but lack stg. I think Mr. Stacks had the right idea when he was still up there in HV. Make one of us a lieutenant, and the other a sergeant. It would create a career ladder for the stg/safe prison officers and sergeants on the unit. Plus, the pay would keep up with the rest of security, rather than fall behind as it has now. Doing otherwise will only continue the lag in pay, and they will continue to have difficulty filling the slots.

One out of every ten inmates are sexually abused in this country. TDCJ Corrections Officers and Staff have been known to confidentially provide names of attorneys who can help stop the abuse to family members of abused inmates. Check out the Houston Pressarchives about that.

Check out the Houston Pressarchives about that. Yes, I've heard and read the numbers. Sexual assault is a problem in the USA prisons, jails, and detention centers. PREA, and the TDCJ Safe Prisons Plan are a result of the legislature, both state and federal, trying to do something to prevent prison rape. Believe it or not, TDCJ was ahead of the feds on this one. Our Safe Prison Program was actually started in 2001, a full two years prior to PREA being enacted into law.
